  40. There are a few reasons:
  41.  
  42. 1.  The directory may be the same name as an executable.
  43. 2.  Speed.  Yes, speed.  Without the "cd", your entire path is first
  44. searched to see if the command is an executable.  With large paths like
  45. mine, that may take a few seconds.  It's faster for me to type cd than to
  46. wait for the path to be searched.
